Green Party Candidate Jill Stein on Election 2016: 'How Could It Get Crazier?'

At a rally in New York City this week, Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein channeled the American electorate's take on the state of Election 2016 in one line: "How could it get crazier?" Stein appeared alongside her running mate, Ajamu Baraka, at the Hostos Community College Arts Center in the Bronx Wednesday evening at an event attended by about 200 of her supporters. She outlined her own proposals on items like the economy, student debt and the environment and also discussed her view of the ugly battle going on between the two major candidates in the race, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, as well as Trump's feud with his own party. "We're watching the absolute meltdown of the Republican Party right now," she said. Clinton and Dems have, to a certain extent, reached out to Republicans fleeing Trump. Stein appears to see their overtures as an opportunity for her to peel off disaffected liberals. "We're seeing the leaders of the Republicans join the Democrats to create one big happy corporate political party right now, and we've seen the Bernie folks really forced out of the Democratic Party," she said. Later that night in a speech addressing the crowd, she consistently dinged what she dubbed the "new Demo-Republican Party" and invoked Bernie Sanders, Clinton's challenger in the Democratic Party. "Now we are burning green together," she declared, to cheers.
