The Best Twitter Accounts for Deals

  • Saving Money in 140 Characters or Less

Earlier this year, Twitter attempted to create an official account called @earlybird to promote great deals every day, only to pull the plug on it shortly after because it didn’t gain too much attention. Even without an official account though, there is still a seemingly endless amount of deals advertised on Twitter every day from other users. You just need to know where to look. We’ve rounded up 10 of our favorite Twitter accounts for finding freebies and deals on everything from clothing and fast food to flights and gadgets. Photo Credit: Twitter.com
    CheapTweet
  • CheapTweet

CheapTweet, the official Twitter account of CheapTweet.com, posts four or five great deals and coupons every day for retailers around the country. Last week alone, this account highlighted deals to get 30% off on any purchase from Nautica, 25% off at the Gap and 75% off winter boots from 6PM.com. Be sure to follow this account in the lead up to Black Friday (Nov. 26), as it’s sure to have plenty of bargains. Follow @CheapTweet
    HeyItsFree
  • HeyItsFree

If you’re looking for your daily dose of freebies, HeyItsFree is the place to start. This account, which is run by the site HeyItsFree.net, posts news about giveaways every day. The deals range in quality from a free tube of Maine Toothpaste to a free subscription to Forbes Magazine, and of course the account writes about a fair amount of free food giveaways from chains like Baskin Robbins and Taco Bell. RetailMeNot
  • RetailMeNot

RetailMeNot was on our list of the best sites for coupon lovers and the Twitter account is also a great tool for those looking to save. The account is updated regularly with coupon codes for places like Old Navy and Kohls, as well as with news about free samples, free shipping and free everything else. Follow @RetailMeNot
    DealNews
  • DealNews

If you’re a techie, then you need to follow DealNews. This account posts dozens of deals every day for computers, cameras and video games, as well as occasional deals on clothing and food. On Friday, DealNews posted messages about a 24-inch Asus computer for $150, a 50-inch plasma TV from Samsung for $499 and a Black and Decker toaster oven on sale for $16. Follow @dealnews
    FreeStuffRocks
  • FreeStuffRocks

It’s hard to disagree with the premise of this account. Free stuff does rock, and this account, which is culled from the forums on FatWallet.com, gets the scoop on tons of daily freebies. Last week, they tweeted about 7-11 giving away free cups of coffee this month, as well as free samples of Taster’s Choice coffee and a free DVD at a Blockbuster Express kiosk. That said, there are only so many good items given away each day, so there are also plenty of duds that you may want to ignore (unless you’re lactose intolerant, of course) like that free sample of Lactaid fast act dietary supplements. Fun! Follow @FreeStuffRocks
    SurvivingStores
  • SurvivingStores

The SurvivingStores account is administered by a mother from Texas who runs a blog about coupons and deals in the retail world since 2008. She rounds up deals each week from big chains like Wal-Mart and Amazon, and digs up promotions and coupons for many other smaller stores. Last week, she tweeted about a 50% off sale at Kohls, free coffee from Bruegger’s and a deal to get two shirts from Rue La La for just $1.75. Follow @SurvivingStores
    CouponTweet
  • CouponTweet

CouponTweet doesn’t update quite as often as some of the other accounts on our list, but when they do, it’s usually a pretty great deal. Most recently, they tweeted a 20% off deal for all books at Borders and up to 40% off select items at Patagonia, an outdoor clothing chain. Follow @CouponTweet
    AmazonDeals
  • AmazonDeals

Amazon has so many deals each week that it can be hard to keep track of them all. That’s why this account is so useful. AmazonDeals, which is officially supported by the online retailer, promotes several daily deals from Amazon, like getting the entire series of I Love Lucy on DVD for $85. Follow @amazondeals
    TargetDailyDeal
  • TargetDailyDeal

Every day, Target promotes one great deal on this Twitter account, ranging from 33% off a Draper Bookcase to nearly half off a TomTom GPS. Follow @TargetDailyDeal
    JetBlueCheeps
  • JetBlueCheeps

Every Tuesday, JetBlue posts incredible last-minute deals on flights to this Twitter account. Last Tuesday, there was a $39 flight between Boston and Buffalo, N.Y., and a $99 cross-country flight from San Francisco to New York City. Not a bad deal, assuming of course you can leave everything and go on a moment’s notice. Follow @JetBlueCheeps
