What They Do: Group of transportation companies that provides student transportation, public transit and fleet maintenance throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Types of Part-Time Position(s) Available: Bus drivers and school bus drivers.

Desired Hours Per Week: Varies by position/route. School bus drivers generally work a split shift, consisting of several hours in the morning and several more in the afternoon, but do not work evenings, holidays or weekends. Other bus drivers may be required to be on call, and may be away from home for two to three days at a time.

Starting Pay: School bus drivers earn $13 to $16 an hour. Pay rates for other drivers depend on qualifications and route.

Benefits: Company provides CDL and school bus driving training.

Requirements: Must have good driving record, with no DWI/DUI arrests or citations related to leaving the scene of an accident. Greyhound bus drivers must be at least 22 years old, with three years of driving experience.

The Inside Scoop: Applicants must be safety-conscious and have good communication skills. School bus drivers must have lots of patience. Bilingual candidates are especially needed.

Desired Hours Per Week: Several hours per day, four to five times a week, with hours up until 8 p.m.

Starting Pay: $14 per hour plus potential bonuses of $4 to $7 per hour.

Requirements: Previous experience working one-on-one with children or adults. College degree preferred, but should have at least some college background, ideally with a concentration in psychology, education or a related area.

Desired Hours Per Week: Generally 15 to 25 hours per week, which may include some weekends.

Starting Pay: About $10 an hour for merchandisers. Pay for retail clerks varies widely by location and situation — they currently have one opening that pays about $8 an hour, while another opening (which is for a floater, who must be available all the time to cover for other workers) pays $11.36 an hour and includes benefits.

Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Merchandisers must have clean driving record and reliable vehicle.
