Who's Hiring Now: ROW Adventures and More

It’s nearly impossible to escape the daily onslaught of bad news when it comes to the job market. But amid the layoffs and company shutdowns, there are some attractive job opportunities out there, especially in “hot” industries and those that need employees with specialized skills or qualifications. Here are three companies with a variety of positions they need to fill immediately (plus a bonus cool job of the week):

Who They Are: CARQUEST Auto Parts is a large supplier of automobile replacement products, accessories, supplies and equipment. The company also supplies parts and products for light and heavy-duty trucks, off-road equipment, buses, recreational vehicles and agricultural equipment. Additionally, it distributes and sells tools, equipment, chemicals, paint and accessories.

Where They Are: CARQUEST has 3,400 locations throughout North America, most of which are independently owned and operated. They also have a Canadian sister company, WORLDPAC.

What They Want: There’s a variety of positions available, ranging from store managers and assistant managers to customer service reps and delivery drivers. Their distribution centers need warehouse managers and hourly/production workers, and there are also numerous openings at their Raleigh, North Carolina corporate offices.

Coolest Job: You might be a good candidate for the bilingual divisional VP of store operations position at the corporate office if you’re a bilingual professional with eight or more years of progressive store management (bonus points if you have machine shop operations knowledge). This person “leads store operations for an assigned division through regional and district managers to ensure the achievement of profit plan goals.” CARQUEST company benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance; 401k; education reimbursement; paid sick & personal leave and more. Part-time employees are also eligible for some benefits.

Next: ROW Adventures

ROW Adventures
Who They Are: Launched in 1979 as a white water rafting company in Idaho, ROW Adventures has grown into a worldwide adventure travel company. They offer whitewater rafting, canoeing, hiking, biking, fly fishing and more in Idaho, Missouri, Montana, Washington and Oregon; and adventure tours around the world. The company also owns and operates the River Dance Lodge, an outdoor adventure resort in North Central Idaho.

Where They Are:  Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon and various locations around the world.

What They Want:  They seek people to work in various outdoor and adventure positions (some of which are seasonal), including river guides, drivers and tour leaders. They also have some administrative/office openings. “We look for people seeking to set the high watermark in their personal and professional lives,” the company says. “If you are a friendly, self-starting, energetic, creative and hard-working person with a love for people and life, and are interested in a long-term relationship with ROW, we want to hear from you!”

Coolest Job:   If you have photography experience, lots of energy and a love for the outdoors, check out the opening for a whitewater photographer. You would take pictures of the tour on the rapids and then host an informal photo show after the tour (employing your sales skills to encourage clients to buy photos). It’s a commission based just but there are some great perks, namely the opportunity for an incredible adventure, lots of interaction with nature and wildlife and the chance to hang out with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
