Who’s Hiring Part-Time: Aldi, Trader Joe's, AT&T

Looking for part-time work? You’re in luck. Here are three companies with part-time openings available right now.

What They Do: Chain of discount grocery stores that specialize in a no-frills look in order to maintain low prices; there are more than 1,000 store locations in the U.S.

Types of Part-Time Position(s) Available: Cashiers

Desired Hours Per Week: Varies by location, but they generally prefer applicants with lots of schedule flexibility; weekend work is usually required.

Starting Pay:
around $11.50/hour.

Benefits: medical/dental coverage; paid holidays.

Requirements: high school diploma or GED; must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check; prior cash register or retail experience is a plus.

The Inside Scoop: as cashier jobs go, this one is rather nice because (in many locations) the cashiers are allowed to be seated at the register; also, cashiers are not responsible for bagging groceries since Aldi doesn't provide bagging as part of their checkout process (customers can bring their own bags/boxes to pack their order, if they wish).

in person at your nearest Aldi location.

Next: Trader Joe's

Trader Joe's

What They Do: grocery store chain with 300 locations in 25 states.

Types of Part-Time Position(s) Available: lots of openings for crew members (the general term for most non-management Trader Joe's store employees; they perform all store-related tasks, from working a cash register to stocking shelves); food demonstrator opportunities are also available.

Desired Hours Per Week: Offers very flexible scheduling options; ability to work evenings and weekends is a plus; part-time employees can work up to 35 hours per week.

Starting Pay:
$8 to $12/hour

Benefits: Medical/dental coverage, store discounts, paid time off.

Requirements: Trader Joe's prides itself on providing a fun atmosphere for both customers and employees, so an upbeat attitude is a must. High school graduates are preferred. Previous customer service or retail experience is a plus.

The Inside Scoop: About 85% of full-time employees start on a part-time basis; unlike many full-time store staff members, part-timers don't supervise other crew members.

Apply in person at your nearest Trader Joe's (since personality and attitude are important criteria for would-be crew members, managers like to meet applicants face-to-face).
