VW & Audi Recall Cars With Bad Transmissions

Just as the Cash for Clunkers incentive program is coming to a close, Volkswagen and Audi have announced a recall of 16,000 of its small cars

Model year 2009 and 2010 Volkswagen Jettas, Jetta SportWagens, GTIs, and Eos are being recalled due to a faulty temperature sensor in their dual-clutch transmission which can cause warning lamps to illuminate in the dashboard and even cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into neutral.

Separately, Volkswagen’s luxury auto group, Audi of America, said it’s recalling 2,500 vehicles with similar problems.  The recall applies to Audi A3, Audi TT and Audi TT Roadsters.

The recalled vehicles were built between September 2008 and August 2009.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be contacted in the next few weeks to schedule an appointment at a local dealer to have their vehicle inspected, and if necessary, repaired.

Customers with questions or concerns can call the Volkswagen Loyalty Center at 1-800-444-8982 or the Audi Customer Relations Campaign Help Line at 1-800-253-AUDI (2834).
