NEW YORK (MainStreet) – E-readers have exploded in popularity during the past few years, but there are still a few holdouts who prefer paper books. Barnes & Noble wants to win over these skeptics – as well as the Kindle loyalists – with their Nook Color e-reader.
To this end, Barnes & Noble (Stock Quote: BKS) is teaming up with its in-house Starbucks (Stock Quote: SBUX) cafes for a special promotion. This Saturday, go into any participating café and you can take the Nook Color for a test drive. As a reward for playing with the gadget for a few minutes, the store will give you a free cup of coffee.
It seem that’s really all there is to it. The website doesn’t specify how long you need to spend with the device, but we suppose it’s possible that café might refuse to give you your free coffee if you just pick it up for a few seconds and put it back down. But since there’s no purchase necessary, it can’t hurt to spend a few minutes playing with the e-reader. Worst-case scenario, you like it so much that you wind up spending $250 to buy one. But at least you got a free cup of coffee.
The promotion is happening on Saturday, and at participating locations only. The coffee is just a tall hot or iced coffee, so don’t walk in there thinking that you’re going to get a gingerbread latte.
