The Stores Where Black Friday Shoppers Spent the Most


NEW YORK (MainStreet) — We already know Black Friday was a big hit this year.  Retail sales for the day were up 7% from last year, with shoppers purchasing $11.4 billion worth of merchandise.  But which retailers were the busiest on Nov. 25?

According to new data from, Apple (Stock Quote: AAPL) saw the most shopping activity with consumers spending an average of $212.45 per transaction on Black Friday. Apple tops the list despite a 22% drop in transactions from 2010.

Macy’s (Stock Quote: M), on the other hand, which ranked 5th overall with a transaction average of $80.91, saw activity increase by 11% this year versus 2010.

Kohl’s (Stock Quote: KSS) also saw an increase from last year with activity rising by 8%, while Amazon (Stock Quote: AMZN) experienced a double-digit drop of 10% in 2011.

The stats were aggregated from debit and credit card transactions linked to the budgeting website's database of more than 5 million users.

The top 10 retailers with the most shopping activity during Black Friday 2011 are listed below. How they well they did compared to last year is included in the brackets:
