Recycle Your Jeans, Get 30% Off

If you’ve been meaning to get rid of an old, ratty pair of jeans and update your casual wear collection with some new denim, now might be the time thanks to a deal that can get you 30% off denim at the Gap.

To promote textile recycling efforts, Gap (Stock Quote: GPS) is accepting old denim, even from other stores, in exchange for 30% off the purchase of new denim at participating locations through March 14. Your old jeans will be donated to Habitat for Humanity for recycling into UltraTouch cotton fiber to be used in denim insulation for needy families, according to the Cotton From Blue to Green program.

If you use your Gap, Old Navy or Banana Republic credit card, you’ll get 35% off, according to WalletPop.

The deal is limited to participating stores, and in Augusta, Ga., for example, there’s additional deal: shoppers can get 25% off whatever they can fit into a recycled bag on March 12 and 13, according to The Augusta Chronicle.

You may want to check with your local Gap store to make sure it participates in the promotion.

So far, thanks to the program, 270,617 pieces of denim were recycled into enough cotton fiber insulation for 540 homes hit by natural disasters and prevented 200 tons of the material from being dumped in landfills, according to cotton producers and importers.
