Recessionista Chronicles: Incredibly Cheap Cosmetics

This Week’s Deal: Dirt-Cheap Cosmetics.

Cosmetics, body lotion and shampoo are brand-neutral once they’re on, right? Seriously, who can tell that red on your lips is Chanel’s pricey hydrabase crème lipstick or something more affordable?

You can save at least $25 a month by buying generic cosmetics from Target (Stock Quote: TGT), CVS (Stock Quote: CVS), Walgreens (Stock Quote: WAG)or Rite-Aid (Stock Quote: RAD) or online at my favorite makeup web site,, where you can get everything from mascara to eye shadow and blush for $1. I’m a bulk buyer here, in fact.  I’m in love with their lip glosses, which I wore all through filming my TLC series, Real Simple. Real Life. The professional make-up artist there (who gets discounts on all her beauty gear) was even shocked to hear the price.

To conserve what you may not want to use right away, keep your cosmetics in a cool, dry space, or even in your fridge.

Recessionista-style savings: at least $300 a year.
