J&J Recalls Mylanta Products

NEW YORK (MainStreet) -Johnson and Johnson (Stock Quote: JNJ) is recalling 12 of its Mylanta liquid products and one AlternaGEL liquid product in order to update its labels, the company said Wednesday.

The products are being recalled because they contain small amounts of alcohol in their flavoring agents not listed on the packaging.  This is considered a wholesale and retail level recall, meaning it is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse events. As such, no action is required by consumers or healthcare providers and consumers can continue to use the products.

If the story sounds familiar, it’s because J&J issued an almost identical recall of several Benadryl products late last week. Consumers should expect similar retail level recalls as J&J is currently in the process of conducting a massive internal review of the labeling on all of its products.

The review is part of the pharmaceutical giant’s efforts to ensure its products are being manufactured correctly, following a massive recall of Children’s Tylenol products that ultimately led to the closure of its Fort Washington facility. A residual inspection by the Food and Drug Administration confirmed that the medications coming from the plant were contaminated with bacteria.
The products affected by the latest recall include:

  • Mylanta Regular Strength Original 12 fl. oz.
  • Mylanta Original 5 fl. oz.
  • Mylanta Regular Strength Mint 12 fl. oz.
  • Mylanta Maximum Strength Cherry 12 fl. oz.
  • Mylanta Maximum Strength Mint 12 fl. oz.
  • Mylanta Maximum Strength Original 12 fl. oz.

  • Mylanta Supreme Tasting with Calcium Cherry 12 fl. oz.
  • Mylanta Supreme Tasting with Calcium Cherry 24 fl. oz.
