IRS Holding Free Small Biz Webinar Today

Organizing a small business’s taxes can be tough for any new entrepreneur. After all, not every small business owner has an MBA or CPA. Luckily, owners who want to learn more about the Internal Revenue Service can take advantage of the agency’s free national webinars and phone forums.  

The IRS is holding the first of two new free forums July 8. Interested owners can learn about the new tax benefits available to them through the federal Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act by attending the agency’s free webinar, which starts at 2 p.m.

The HIRE Act, which went into effect March 18, provides payroll tax breaks, exemptions and credits to businesses who hire unemployed workers. Notably, under the Act, employers don’t have to pay a portion of the Social Security tax on wages paid to qualifying employees. They can also be eligible for a $1,000 tax credit. To learn more about the legislation, small business owners can sign up for the webinar at the IRS website.

Those who can’t attend the webinar today will be able to access the information approximately two weeks from now on the new IRS video portal. Tax attorneys, industry partners and tax and payroll professionals are also encouraged to attend. The portal contains archived panel discussions, webinars, podcasts and presentations on a range of topics relevant to small business taxpayers, including audit technique guides, information on record-keeping, tax workshops and payroll instructions.   

The IRS is also holding three free phone forums July 14 that will discuss audit and resolution processes for small businesses and the self-employed. The three forums will be held at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The forums will be followed by a question and answer segment. Participants will need to email their questions prior to the event to have them answered. Questions can be sent to: nationalphoneforum@irs.gov.
