The position: Librarian at the New York Public Library

Location: New York City

Job duties: Will serve as a reference librarian in the library's Milstein Division of U.S. History, Local History and Genealogy. Provides specialized subject reference services, both onsite and offsite, using print and electronic resources. Creates content and updates for Web pages, user guides and training materials. Develops and teaches classes to the public. Participates in continuous educational training and professional programs. Assists with collection maintenance and catalog descriptions. Participates in social media activities.

Requirements: Requires master's degree in library and information studies and undergraduate degree in the humanities or social sciences. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to interact effectively with patrons and staff. Must have experience using online catalogs, electronic databases and internet sources in reference work. Applicants must be a team player with good computer skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of genealogy is preferred.
