The position: Equine protection specialist for the Humane Society
Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland
Job duties: The equine protection specialist will develop and implement campaigns to protect horses and provide for their humane care, including assisting in the drafting of horse care materials. He or she will develop campaign strategies and materials as directed by the program director, and implement these campaigns in conjunction with media relations, publications, government affairs and other equine organizations. The specialist will also respond to equine-related calls and correspondence and manage relationships with local rescue groups and animal shelters to promote campaigns and strategies related to equine protection. This position also represents the Humane Society at venues throughout the U.S. to promote the organization's programs, and also to promote horses as "Companions for Life." The specialist will also assist the director in the development and monitoring of budgets.

Established in 1954, the Humane Society focuses on preventing animal cruelty, exploitation and neglect.Requirements: This position requires a bachelor's degree in animal sciences or a related field, plus one to three years' experience as an equine caregiver. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a good knowledge of equine protection issues is preferred.
