The position: Designer for Bed Bath & Beyond (Stock Quote: BBBY)
Location: Farmingdale, N.Y.
Job duties: The designer will be responsible for driving design leadership while providing interpretation of selling information, market trends and color direction for various Bed Bath & Beyond categories. The designer will create unique products to propel growth, and will be responsible for in-house execution of custom tailored product concepts. The job also involves designing and building private label brands from conception to market. The designer will create CADs, or technical specs, for each design or collection. Finally, the designer will work with overseas partners on development and the sampling process. He or she will approve all final design details, samples and pre-production samples.
The company: Bed Bath & Beyond operates a chain of retail stores specializing in home furnishings and gift items. The company owns more than 1,000 stores nationwide.
Requirements: This role requires at least five years of experience with home furnishings design and development. Applicants must have strong technical knowledge of production techniques, and experience with overseas factories is preferred. This job requires the ability to clearly present concept boards, CADs, plans, status updates and other important information. Design savvy and time management skills are expected, along with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects against aggressive timelines without compromising accuracy or quality. Applicants should be proficient in relevant computer programs, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Bed Bath & Beyond prefers candidates who hold a bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Textile Design or a related field.
