The position: Cyber defense researcher and systems engineer for Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Location: Pasadena, Calif.

Job duties: Serves as principal investigator or co-investigator leading cutting-edge research in cyber security of mission-critical systems and/or assume significant cyber security related engineering and architecture roles. Will lead the development of highly complex and unique software system requirements, and also oversee complex and critical subsystems. Assists in acquiring funding from various government sources. Will develop and maintain contacts and research collaborations with cyber security leaders from NASA, other government agencies, industries and academia. Will act as a team leader and be accountable for budgets, schedules and other administrative tasks.

The company: The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a division of the California Institute of Technology (also known as Caltech). They conduct projects such as the Deep Space Network, which tracks and communicates with spacecrafts outside of the earth's orbit, but also perform a lot of research related to technology.

Requirements: Requires a college degree in engineering, computer science or a related field, with an advanced degree preferable. Also requires at least eight years of related professional experience. Background must include significant experience in cyber defense research, computer networks and/or software engineering for secure information systems. Preferably, candidates will have proven ability to write winning proposals and obtain funding from government sponsors. Requires significant research experience as documented in technical publications, respected journals, books or other resources. Must possess the ability to bridge gaps between traditional spacecraft engineering domains and the cyber security domain. Requires willingness and ability to apply for a U.S. security clearance.
