The position: Crime lab director for Orange County

Location: Santa Ana, Calif.

Job duties: This person will serve as the head of OC's crime lab, which is one of the largest in the country. The director will oversee five department managers, along with the rest of the 150-person staff. Will be responsible for staffing, budget, policy development and legislative updates. Will also act as a liaison to various law enforcement and criminal justice agencies and vendors.

The company: Aside from serving as the backdrop for several popular TV shows, Orange County is home to more than 3 million people and includes 34 cities. It offers numerous natural attractions such as beautiful beaches, harbors, nature preserves and parks.

Requirements: Must have college degree in forensic science, toxicology, chemistry or a related field — ideally, paired with a business degree. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of modern criminal investigation and identification techniques. Requires extensive knowledge of forensics, laboratory accreditation standards, quality assurance practices and all related state, federal and local laws. Must have excellent management and leadership skills, and experience managing budgets and coordinating grant programs. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated experience managing multiple assignments simultaneously with competing demands and priorities. Must be able to work well in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Applicants must not have had any felony convictions, and will need to pass an extensive background check.
