The position: Attorney/director of educational advocacy for the Southern Poverty Law Center

Location: Montgomery, Ala.

Job duties: Will work collaboratively with the staff in several locations to develop and execute campaigns and to manage the Law Center's education litigation docket. Will supervise litigation, policy advocacy, outreach and other activities aimed at reforming Southern educational systems. Develops and executes novel education reform strategies and oversees multi-faceted campaigns that are responsive to families and young people. Will work with students and parents to identify concerns and craft practical solutions.

The company: The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting bigotry and seeking justice on behalf of the most vulnerable members of society, especially poor young people of the South.

Requirements: Requires a law degree and substantial litigation experience. Must have experience working on education reform campaigns that have used multi-faceted approaches to achieve concrete, measurable results. Applicants must have creativity and be willing to take calculated risks in crafting and executing strategies. Requires initiative, vision and a strong commitment to the quest for social justice. Must have strong written and communication skills and be able to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment.
