Free Wi-Fi in Airports, Hallelujah!

Christmas is coming early this year for cash strapped travelers.

Google just announced that it will be offering free Wi-Fi at 47 airports across the country. The deal, which Google is billing as a “holiday gift”, will be good from now through January 15, 2010.

“We know that this is a very hectic travel season for people, and we hope that free Wi-Fi will make both traveling and connecting with friends and family a little bit easier,” the company said in a statement.

Boston, Houston and Las Vegas are just a few of the cities with airports that will have free Wi-Fi.

Mashable.com reports that airports in cities like Seattle and Burbank are actually planning to extend the deal indefinitely.

As we reported previously, Google made a similar deal last month, partnering with Virgin America to provide free Wi-Fi on flights.

Less widely publicized is that Yahoo, one of Google’s main competitors, is offering its own deal for landlocked travelers. The Internet company is providing free Wi-Fi to pedestrians in Times Square.
