Free Health Screenings at Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club (Stock Quote: WMT) is offering free health screenings on Oct. 9 to both members and non-members at many of its nationwide locations.

The screenings will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday. They’ll include a bone density test for osteoporosis and cholesterol, as well as glucose and blood pressure checks. According to Sam’s Club, these types of tests can cost up to $150.

"These tests are simple, yet provide key information about some of the most common leading causes of disease including diabetes and heart disease," Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP Health and Wellness at Sam's Club, tells MainStreet. "Participants are encouraged to share the results with their healthcare professional or they can visit with a Sam's Club pharmacist."

The free health screenings will be available at all Sam's Clubs with a pharmacy on the premises. You can check here to find a participating location near you.

Of course, Sam’s Club is encouraging visitors to get the all-in-one flu shot while they undergo the free health screening, an add-on that will cost $24. Those heeding the CDC’s recommendation that all people six months and older receive flu vaccinations during the 2010-2011 flu season may want to take advantage of this convenience.

This is not the first time that Sam’s Club has offered preventative health care tests. The wholesale club hosted a similar event in July that administered the same free tests to more than 26,000 visitors in 400 locations.
