Fire Hazard: Honda Recalls 646K Vehicles

Are none of our cars safe anymore? We should all just walk, or take the bus, because Toyota’s recent “our gas pedals are defective, our bad” had me freaked out enough.

But now Honda, another respected Japanese automaker, is reportedly recalling 646,000 of its modern-looking 2007 and 2008 Fit models “due to fire hazard involving the power window switch.”

But is it a big deal? That depends entirely on whether you want to die in a ball of flames after trying to put your window up. The issue reportedly “resulted in a death in South Africa.”

I would take this one seriously. If you have a 2007 or 2008 Honda Fit, or know anyone who drives one, pass this article along. In international markets, the Fit is sold as the “Jazz” or “City”—both of which are also affected, since it is the same car, with only a different marketing campaign.

Honda said it will be contacting customers with instructions on how to fix the problem at your local dealership. 2009 and 2010 models are reportedly not affected by this recall.
