FDA: Stay Away From Sprouts

NEW YORK (MainStreet) — Families should be on green alert this holiday season.

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to avoid eating alfalfa sprouts and spicy sprouts from Tiny Greens Organic Farm due to concerns that it may contain salmonella.

According to the FDA, these sprouts were sold throughout the Midwest in states like Illinois, Missouri and Indiana and caused several people to get sick after eating them in sandwiches at Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches.

The FDA has yet to recall the sprouts, but for now, the agency recommends that consumers stop eating them or at the very least, cook the sprouts thoroughly before eating.

This warning comes on the heels of a separate recall of parsley and cilantro from J&D Produce, also due to salmonella.

So if your New Year’s resolution is to eat healthier, you may want to wait just a little bit longer before you make good on that pledge.
