Extreme Real Estate: Penthouses

Each week MainStreet takes a look at what we call Extreme Real Estate. This week we bring you: Movin' On Up.

There are few city dwellers or real estate dreamers who do not pine for a penthouse perch high above the street, where there’s nothing but birds, blue sky and the twinkling lights of the buildings below. While every building topper offers the sweet relief of never having to listen to noisy upstairs neighbors stomp around after a night of club hopping, the primo penthouses also come with at least a sliver of outdoor space for inner city sunning buns and grilling steak.

Windy City Affordability
Penthouses rarely come cheap, but being a millionaire is not always necessary. In the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago, a 1,400 square foot window-lined penthouse encompasses two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan living/dining area with hard wood floors laid on the diagonal, and an updated kitchen.

Deluxe amenities include an in-unit washer and dryer, a fireplace—because it gets freaking cold in Chitown—and a wall of windows that open to a south facing 400 square foot tiled terrace that runs the entire length of the penthouse.

The asking price was recently reduced to $399,000 and a parking spot in the garage can be purchased for an additional $30,000. For more information contact Ron Knoll (773-330-2353) at the Saffron Realty Group.

Livin’ Large In the Big D
They say bigger is better down in Dallas, where big trucks, big hair and big penthouses reign supreme. Sitting high atop the W Dallas-Victory Hotel and Residences is a titanic 12,000 square foot aerie originally designed to help keep the peace between two grown children of a Texas concrete tycoon. The very contemporary 29th floor penthouse was custom designed with two fully separate private spaces (including his and hers powder rooms) that flank a shared middle area, which includes a media room, exercise center, laundry facilities, butler’s pantry, a massive marble floored party room. A wide balcony stretches the entire width of the building and has a glittery view of the downtown Dallas skyline.

Each of the private spaces was fitted with its own gourmet kitchen, large living and entertaining areas, quiet study, lavish master suite and guest quarters. Two of everything ensured the siblings wouldn’t claw each other’s eyes out over dirty dishes. Altogether, the full floor penthouse includes four bedrooms, five full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, four fireplaces, two dining areas, six living and entertaining areas, eight deeded parking spaces, 360 degree views and some of the best sound, entertainment and security systems money can buy.

Residents also have access to all the swanky services of the W Hotel which include preferred services at the Bliss spa, 24/7 maintenance, pick-up to in-closet delivery laundry services, personal training, help with the housekeeping and VIP access to celebrity chef Tom Colicchio’s Craft restaurant,

Of course, big penthouses have big asking prices and in this case it’s a toe-curling $11,750,000. Contact Kari Schlegel (972-733-8515) at Allie Beth Allman & Associates for more information.
