NEW YORK (MainStreet) For this episode of The Moola Files, BuzzFeed account manager Ben Rosen takes us inside the strategy of his website's sponsored content. Using cute kittens as currency, Rosen explains, amplifies the resonance and reach a particular brand can have.
"This is something that Jonah [Peretti], our CEO, talks about all the time--the biggest source of sharing and engagement is always through positive emotional response," Rosen said. "And that's why it's so good to include cat gifs or something uplifting within your post, because what you see is people love to associate themselves with good content...They'll take that post and they'll happily share it with their friends, because they're associating themselves with something positive."
That humor and good energy is also integral to Rosen's strategy when moonlighting as a stand-up comedian. He discussed the economic challenges comics face this day and age and the innovative branding tactics people like Mike Birbiglia or social media-savvy Jenna Marbles have used.
