The Best Companies to Work for in 2012

NEW YORK (MainStreet) — Forget tech companies, a new survey finds that the two best places to work in the U.S. are consulting firms.

Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm, had by far the highest overall employee satisfaction of any business based in the U.S., according Glassdoor’s list of the top 50 best companies to work for based on surveys conducted throughout the year by the jobs website. McKinsey & Company, another consulting firm, ranked second on the list.

Facebook took the top spot on Glassdoor’s list last year but its employee satisfaction rating dropped from 4.6 at the end of 2010 to 4.3 this year, pushing the company down to third place. Likewise, the percentage of employees who approved of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and CEO, dropped by seven percentage points to 89% in 2011, suggesting that all is not well in Palo Alto.

Still, tech companies continue to be among the most enjoyable places to work. Google cracked the top five this year after being ranked at number 30 last year and Apple came in at number 10.
