Apple Sells 3 Millionth iPad

Apple (Stock Quote: AAPL) announced yesterday that they have now sold more than 3 million iPads. But hey, who’s counting?

The device was released just 80 days ago, which means customers are buying more than 1 million iPads each month. “People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, said in a press release. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”

The sales number is even more staggering when you break it down a bit. As one analyst told CNET, Apple is now selling an average of 37,500 iPads a day. If they continue selling at this pace, they could sell more than 16 million iPads by 2012.

Of course, it does sound unlikely that they could keep this up, but as Wired points out, the current numbers show that the iPad is actually selling even faster now than it did in its first month on the market. “The first million was reached in 28 days, the second million was sold in ‘less than 60 days’. That means that the third million has been shifted ten days ahead of ‘schedule’”.

Is it possible that Americans are becoming even more infatuated with the device than they were in the weeks leading up to its release?
