America’s Most Influential: Snooki???

Time Magazine is currently asking America who they would like to see in its "100 Most Influential People In The World" issue.  You can go online now and rate the 201 finalists on a scale of 1 to 100.

You should note, however, that the poll's winners are determined by number of votes they receive, not their average influential rating.  This means, were the poll to close right now, Jersey Shore starlet Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and her 12,034 votes would make the list.  She's currently in 77th place, despite the fact that her average influential rating is 19 out of 100.

The poll's current leader is Iranian Opposition Leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who, so far, has received a staggering 584,863 votes and an influential rating on 99.  Mousavi is followed by South Korean Olympic gold medalist Kim Yu-Na (496,250 votes) and American pop star Lady Gaga (469,543 votes – her success could, perhaps, be attributed to a fear that she'll poison people's breakfasts).

Other not-so-surprising nominations include Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, whose middle-of-the-road rating of 54 could be due to the polarizing effect she’s had on people, particularly in the wake of health care reform.

More notable, though, are some of Time's less obvious candidates.

They include 19-year-old Bristol Palin, billed as an abstinence spokeswomen and up-and-coming actress; novelist Neil Gaimen, who, though undeniably cool, is not particularly relevan;t and actors Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis, who, you know, gave us "The Hangover."

All four of these nominees, however, are faring better than NBC executive Jeff Zucker, Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and Yankee Third Basemen Alex Rodriguez, who are currently, well, bringing up the rear.

This can all change, though, as the final list is slated to be revealed on April 29.  You can vote now if you don’t approve of the current standings.
