10 Great Winter Ski Vacations

NEW YORK (MainStreet) — If your idea of a winter vacation is hitting the ski slopes, you’re in luck. Ski resorts all across the country and in Canada are offering great deals this season to lure you in for some snow-packed adventure.

Here are 10 of the best deals we found:

1. Bretton Woods, N.H.: You and your family may not want to spend all of your vacation on the slopes, and at The Omni Mount Washington Resort you will find plenty of other activities to keep you busy, including family sleigh rides, snow tubing, dog sledding and competing in the game room. This resort even has an indoor/outdoor winterized swimming pool for those wanting some nonfrozen water sports. Rates start at $209 per night with two complimentary ski lift tickets per night.

2. Killington, Vt.: One of the largest ski areas in the East is beckoning with great packages at the Woodstock Inn, just 20 minutes from the ski area. The Killington Express Ski Package includes all-day ski passes at Killington for two, complimentary breakfast, use of the pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and racquet and fitness club, complimentary morning coffee and tea and afternoon coffee, tea and cookies. Rates start at $369 per night.

3. Ski Apache, N.M.: If a Southwest vacation is more to your liking, you can visit New Mexico in the southern Rockies and still have access to great skiing. Inn of the Mountain Gods is offering a package that includes two lift tickets with full ski and snowboard rentals and transportation to and from the mountain, breakfast for two each morning at the Gathering of Nations Buffet and generous credits for lunch and dinner at the resort's other eateries. Weekday prices start at $499.

4. Jackson Hole, Wyo.: The wilds of Wyoming make some of the best skiing in the States, and The Lodge at Jackson Hole offers Black Diamond Ski Packages that include shuttle service to and from the airport, day passes to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, newly renovated accommodations and a hot breakfast each morning. The lodge also offers snowmobile packages. Rates are from $191 to $220 per person per night.

5. Mount Bachelor, Ore.: If you’ve always wanted to tackle Mount Bachelor in Oregon, Pronghorn, a five-star luxury resort, is offering a 50%-off value on a three-night stay in a one-bedroom suite with two adult three-day ski passes, two child three-day ski passes, transportation to and from the airport, $20 food and beverage voucher and hot chocolate and cookies in the clubhouse for $829.

6. Vail, Colo.: You still have a little time to get in on the packages at Solaris Vail, which run until Jan. 4. This hotel, which is only in its second year, offers amenities including a private spa, fitness center, luxurious movie theatre with dinner and cocktail service, trendy bowling alley and lounge and complimentary ski valet from $785 per night.

7. Whitefish, Mont.: Big Sky Country really opens up during the skiing season, and the Whitefish Mountain Resort has an "Eat, Ski, Sleep, Repeat" deal that includes lift tickets, lodging, hot breakfast and hot tub access. Packages start at just $70 per night.

8. Snowmass Village, Colo.: If you want a great Colorado ski vacation and Vail is a little too pricey, Snowmass Mountain also makes for a great ski vacation. The newly renovated and reopened Wildwood Snowmass offers deals at just $134 per night with the second night at 40% off. Staying at this hotel also gives you access to the Westin Snowmass resort and the Westin Shopping Plaza, which is full of restaurants and retail shops.

9. Lake Tahoe, Nev.: Lake Tahoe is one of the most recognized ski destinations in the country, and this winter The Hyatt at Lake Tahoe offers a standard deluxe guest room, 15% off food and beverage on the property, free shuttle service to and from Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, North Star and Squaw Valley, $100 spa credit, lunch or breakfast for two and a welcome s’mores kit from $369 per night.

10. Barrie, Ontario, Canada: If you’re looking to head farther north to Canada, Horseshoe Resort, north of Barrie and less than an hour from Greater Toronto, offers a Snowboard & Stay package that includes accommodations in a standard room, breakfast and lift ticket (good until checkout) starting at $187 per night.
