Oops, maybe we should have said those beauties used to have that in common. SJP landed in the gossip pages this week when she appeared fresh-faced at the All-Star Game sans trademark chin-mole. E!News [CMCSA] reports that “a source close to the actress” confirmed the mole is no more.

SJP’s beauty mark is as trademark to her “look” as Manolos were to Carrie Bradshaw. But not everyone thought it was beautiful.  In fact, when The New York Observer harshly condemned the Sex and the City [TWC] movie and led with this condemnation of that mole, of all things:

“There’s nothing wrong with Sarah Jessica Parker that couldn’t be cured by wart-removal surgery. That growth on her face just gets bigger with every close-up, and in the full-length movie version of Sex and the City it’s so distracting you can’t concentrate on anything else. It’s not a beauty mark.”

Ouch! 

But it’s possible a dermatologist removed SJP’s mole due to more nefarious reasons than vanity.  Dr. Conway Huang, a dermatologist at the University of Alabama, says the most common reason for a mole removal is to safeguard against cancer, followed by stopping a mole from bleeding or irritating the skin. 

A typical mole removal will cost about $200 to shave off the mole and it will be covered by insurance if the procedure’s to prevent cancer or thwart irritation, says Dr. Huang. (Cosmetic removals will not be covered by insurance.)  If the area needs to be stitched up with sutures, the procedure may cost as much as $1,000.  The cost of a mole removal does not vary much based on the size of the beauty mark, he says.

But you may end up spending more if your dermatologist leaves a scar, Dr. Huang says.  Scar revision procedures are rare, but expensive, beginning at $1,000, he says.

Fortunately for Parker, judging by the paparazzi pics there is nary a scar.  There, SJP haters, are you happy now?
