1. The Carlton
Located in Murray Hill, the Carlton somehow manages to be young and old at the same time. The hotel is 100 years old and many old-world touches remain, but rooms also have modern conveniences like free wifi and flexible wall-mounted reading lights on each side of the bed. Need meeting space? Seven elegantly designed meeting rooms offer 6,000 square feet of space. For less formal occasions, there are lots of quiet nooks perfect for a business meeting or lunch with a friend. Rates start at $199 during low season and $369 during high season.

2. Pod 39 and Pod 51
Long known as budget-friendly favorite of young people, the original Pod hotel on E. 51st Street (now known as Pod 51) has a cool, casual vibe and lets you save money by opting for shared bathrooms or connect with ‘Pod Pals’ via the hotel’s “Pod Culture” forum. The new Pod 39 — opening in June — features a restaurant with an international taco bar and rooftop lounge (and all rooms have their own bathrooms). Rates start at around $89 for Pod 51 and $119 for Pod 39.

3. The Setai Fifth Avenue
If you want to splurge (or your company is picking up the tab) The Setai offers total luxury and indulgence with tycoon-worthy amenities: a 24-hour personal assistant for every guest, complimentary access to a chauffeured Maserati and a bar offering a Three Martini Lunch in the spirit of “Mad Men.” There’s also the Julien Farel Salon specializing in express services for business travelers (you can get a mani, pedi and blowout all in a little over an hour). Rates for newly renovated Premier Rooms start at $695.

4. The Strand Hotel NYC
The Strand is all about fashion — and not just because it’s located in the heart of the fashion district on West 37th Street. Opened in 2009, The Strand offer 177 guestrooms designed to appeal to young fashionable travelers (every room has great views of the city and its landmarks). Photos of vintage Conde Nast magazine covers appear throughout the public areas and the intimate glass-enclosed bar lounge was designed by “Sex and the City” set designer Lydia Marks. Rates start at $299.

5. The Warwick New York Hotel
Built by William Randolph Hearst in 1926 as a place to host his Hollywood friends in luxury, The Warwick honors that legacy with its newly renovated rooms and suites inspired by the glamorous celebrities of that era: touches include antiqued mirror inlays, silver-leaf coffee tables and marble bathrooms. Want to splurge and live like a star? Check out the two-bedroom, 1200-square foot Suite of the Stars, also known as the Cary Grant Suite (the actor lived there for 12 years). Rates for Premier rooms start at $495.
