The Least Charitable Cities in America

The Least Charitable Cities

Some cities just can’t seem to spare a dime. Our partners at recently analyzed the 100 most populous cities in America to find out how charitable they are. To do so, they focused on four criteria: How many donations residents gave online in 2009 and how much those donations were for; the average amount of money each household gave to political, religious and social service organizations by credit card each month; and finally, the number of nonprofit organizations currently registered in the city. The researchers then took a weighted average of these factors to rank the cities. Photo Credit: Andrea Booher
