Where to Find Free Antibiotics

When Times Are Tough

Paying for simple antibiotic prescriptions can be taxing on anyone from a working parent to a single 20-something to an elderly person living on a fixed income.

Some stores have made paying for the smaller health care costs a little easier with free antibiotic programs. When most people hear the word free, they think "Yeah, but what's the catch?" For these programs, there really isn't one. Your insurance (if you have it) is not charged and all that is required for most of the programs is a prescription from your doctor.

Although these antibiotic programs are great for those of us on a budget, be aware of some of the advisories out there about inappropriate use of antibiotics. Consumer Reports says:

"Inappropriate use of antibiotics in viral infections such as the common cold, bronchitis, and run-of-the-mill sore throat is still much too common. Antibiotics not only don't help those viral infections but can cause serious side effects. In addition, every antibiotic prescribed unnecessarily increases the risk of a future infection from a bacterial mutation that is resistant to antibiotics."

So, with all of this information in mind, here are the places you can find free antibiotics near you.

Other Places for Free Antibiotics

Several stores had free antibiotic programs last year that are similar to the ones we've listed. Since most of these programs began in January and ended in March, they may be restarted next month. Here are the stores who implemented these programs (and links to their pharmacy sites), so you can keep an eye out for any possible deals they might have.
