Marine Laurean on the Run
Fugitive Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean remains a wanted man. Police suspect the 21-year-old fled to his native Mexico from North Carolina’s Camp LeJeune to dodge U.S. authorities who believe him responsible for the death of a 20-year-old pregnant colleague. Prosecutors said yesterday they would not seek the death penalty if Laurean is caught in Mexico and extradited. Back in North Carolina a grand jury indicted Laurean on a charge of first degree murder for the death of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach, who previously accused Lauren of rape. Her remains and the remains of her unborn child were discovered on Laurean’s property in early January.
While sadly it is too late for Lauterbach and her unborn child, the same outcome doesn’t have to happen again or to you. Whether it is someone harassing you at work or in your neighborhood, or even your place of worship, it is important to communicate and document these claims through your local police department.
Create a paper trail. “The most important thing you can do if you think you are being stalked is to make immediate contact with the police and file a complain report,” said private investigator Bo Dietl, who runs a New York based private investigation and security firm. “ If you don’t get a response you want from the police go directly to the District Attorney or state attorney.” Your county clerk or courthouse can also issue a retraining order, or a personal protection order (PPO) as they’re know as in Michigan, says Tim Westphal, a private investigator in Frasier, Michigan. This lays down ground rules as to what a suspected harasser can and can’t do in regard to the victim. “If the person does violate those terms the great thing is he will be arrested in violation of the PPO,” says Westphal." That can eliminate the threat of that person for a while.”
