 As many as 5,000 people were killed when a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck central China on Monday, including 900 schoolchildren in a collapsed school.

Former Saturday Night Live comedian Jimmy Fallon is reportedly taking over the hosting gig at NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien, a source close to the negotiations tells the AP. O'Brien will leave Late Night to replace Jay Leno at The Tonight Show. An official announcement regarding Fallon's reported promotion may come today.

An actor on the set of Broadway's The Little Mermaid broke his wrists after he fell through a trap-door onstage on Saturday. Adrian Bailey, an ensemble actor, plunged at least 20 feet and was taken to a nearby hospital, delaying the start of the performance for one hour.
