Harry Hamlin Is Seeing Green

The red carpet maybe the domain of TV Guide Networks (GMST)  Oscar commentator Lisa Rinna, but her husband Harry Hamlin prefers green – investments, that is. “Anything that is green right now is probably going to be good to invest in for the next ten years,” Hamlin tells MainStreet. “If you can find something where you can invest your money and help out the environment at the same time, it is a great place to go. I think there is extraordinary opportunity in... energy for sure.”

The energetic dance-loving couple, who will celebrate their 11th anniversary March 29, are not the only high-profile investors tossing dough in green-friendly investments. Former vice president Al Gore just announced he’s investing around $35 million of the $100 million fortune he amassed since leaving the White House, with the Capricorn Investment Group. The Palo Alto, Calif. based firm was founded by the former president of eBay Inc. (EBAY)  Jeffrey Skoll, and invests in environmentally friendly companies. It is not the first time the two have teamed up. Billionaire Skoll served as an executive producer on Gore's Oscar-winning documentary film, An Inconvenient Truth.

Hamlin adds that he is keeping some extra greenbacks in his portfolio these days, too. "The best thing you can do is diversify. The emerging markets have been really good to us in the last couple of years," he says. "This is all very strange what is going on right now so actually I have taken a lot off the table and have plenty of cash. I think it is a good thing to have some cash down the road." Whatever he's doing, Hamlin seems to be doing it well. For a recent gift he bought Rinna the exclusive rights to her domain name. Aw. Guess it pays to go green.
