Does 'Breaking Dawn' Top Potter?
Dawn has set. That is Breaking Dawn, the final installment in the young adult vampire saga, Twilight. With a mysterious cover that fans are eager to decode, Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, sold an estimated 1.3 million copies last Saturday with her publisher adding an additional 500,000. Is Meyer the new JK Rowling? Meyer replies to the National Post "…There's no way I'm ever going to be that big, nor [will] anyone else. I don't think there's ever going to be anything else to touch that in the future."
In celebration of Breaking Dawn’s success, (Meyer's first three books sold 8.5 million) MainStreet took a look at some of the top Tween-targeted literary franchises:
The Amulet of Samarkand (The Bartimaeus Trilogy) – Jonathan Stroud, Nathaniel, a 12 year old magician conjures a 14th level dijini (much like a genie), Bartimaeus. This unlikely duo come into possession of the priceless amulet of Samarkand and chaos ensues. Nathaniel and Bartimaeus have taken more than the spirit world by storm; their first movie is set for 2009.
The Bobbsey Twins- Laura Lee Hope (pseudonym), The Bobbsey Twins is one of the longest children’s book series with 72 books. It is believed that several authors worked on this series. If you are one of the lucky people to own an original copy of The Bobbsey Twins, its value:$500.
Chronicles of Narnia-CS Lewis, have sold 100 million copies and been in continuous print since 1955. Lewis and JRR Tolkien belonged to a writer’s peer group, the Inklings, and it is believed that Tolkien offered input on the chronicles.
