Those who spent too much on their children’s back-to-school tattoos may be interested in saving a few dollars on their cell phone plan. Luckily, T-Mobile (Stock Quote: DT) is running a promotion that lets customers add up to three lines for free on qualifying family plans until 2012.
“The upfront cost of purchasing new phones and dealing with monthly service fees for an entire family can add up quickly, so this promotion is designed to make it easier for families,” Ashley White, marketing director of value offers at T-Mobile, said in a press release.
The mobile service provider’s “Kids Are Free” promotion requires customers to pay a one-time $35 activation fee and monthly taxes and fees for each line. However, once activated, the $5 to $10 per month/per line charges will be waived until Dec. 31, 2011. The offer is valid for new or existing customers, who have until Nov. 2 to take advantage of the offer.
Monthly charges vary on whether or not you opt into T-Mobile’s Even More family plan, which starts at $59.99 per month or the Even More Plus family plan, which starts at just $49.99 per month. Even More subscribers will have to start or extend their contracts two additional years for each line on the account.
The Even More Plus plan does not require that customers sign an annual contract so you pay full price for the phone under this option. Some math might be in order to determine which offer is in fact the better deal.
Neither plan includes unlimited texting, which can be added for $20 per month per plan.
As another incentive to buy a free line, T-Mobile is giving customers who purchase a Samsung Vibrant phone a second device for free after they send in a $50 mail-in rebate with a two-year service agreement.
T-Mobile, incidentally, has given away free phones to families before. Earlier this year, as part of a Father’s Day promotion, the company gave all of the phones in its stores for free to customers who signed up for a family plan with at least two users.
