Deal Alert: Free Fries at Burger King

NEW YORK (MainStreet) – McDonald’s is the undisputed king of the fast food St. Patrick’s Day product, as its green-tinted Shamrock Shake is up there with Guinness and Jameson as one of the preferred beverages for the holiday. But this year Burger King is trying to give McDonald’s a run for its money by giving away free fries this weekend.

What do fries have to do with St. Patrick’s Day, though? (After all, they’re called French fries, not Irish fries.) Well, it seems that the fries will be accompanied by special green ketchup provided by Heinz. In case you were wondering, this is accomplished through the miracle of food coloring, not by using under-ripe tomatoes.

In any case, Burger King locations will be giving away one value-sized order of fries per customer on Saturday and Sunday, while supplies last. There is no purchase necessary, and you don’t need to bring in a coupon. And while we’d encourage you to get in on the festivities by dipping the fries in the green ketchup, we’re sure they have some regular red ketchup if you’re grossed out by the green stuff.
