NEW YORK (MainStreet) – In a blog post Tuesday, Sony announced that it had cut the price of its 5-year-old PlayStation 3 console, effective immediately. That means that the base model, which has a 160 GB hard drive, will drop from $299 to $249, and the 320 GB model drops from $349 to $299. The price drop comes three months after Nintendo announced a similar drop in the price of its Wii console, which, like the PlayStation, is getting a bit long in the tooth. More importantly, it comes after a year that saw Sony’s PlayStation Network breached by hackers, resulting in a massive theft of users’ personal information. Whatever the reason, the price drop is effective immediately at retailers everywhere.
