Morning Deals: Meijer Cuts Price on iPad 2

NEW YORK (MainStreet) – Big-box retailer Meijer is offering the baseline iPad 2 – the 16 GB, Wi-Fi-only model – for just $429, a $70 discount. The deal, which is buried in the retailer’s weekly ad, is a big one: We almost never see discounts on Apple’s iPhone or iPad until the new model is upon us, so the price cut is clearly prompted by growing rumors that the iPad 3 will be launching next month. The ad says that all iPads are on sale, so depending on which models your Meijer has in stock, it’s possible that you’ll be able to get the same $70 discount on the entire line of iPad 2s. The deal is valid in stores only through Saturday, but we’d be shocked if supplies lasted that long.

In other tablet news, when you buy the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Wal-Mart for its usual retail price of $199, the retailer will throw in a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. The deal is valid through Tuesday, and participation and availability may vary by store.

When you use Redbox’s Facebook page to send a Valentine’s Day e-card to a Facebook friend, your friend will get a promo code for a free one-day movie rental on Valentine’s Day, though your friend will still have to pay if he/she wants a Blu-ray movie or video game. The code is good through 11:59 p.m. CST on Tuesday, and you can send as many cards (and codes) as you’d like.

Finally, a reminder that National Pancake Day is coming up at IHOP on Feb. 28. Guests can get a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In return for the free pancakes, guests are encouraged to leave a donation to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
