Morning Deals: Airfare Sale, Macy’s & Popcorn

NEW YORK (MainStreet) – It’s probably no surprise that some hot dog merchants have taken advantage of the Anthony Weiner scandal, but we did a bit of a double take when we saw that Spirit Airlines was doing a Weiner-themed sale. Other than some innuendo-filled marketing copy there doesn’t seem to be any clear tie-in to the scandal, but the fares are certainly cheap, starting at $9 one-way. You can fly from Boston to Atlantic City for $9, for instance, and New York to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for $17 each way, though the fares are only available to members of the $9 fare club, which costs $59.95 a year to join. Please keep in mind that Sprit is an ultra-low-cost carrier that makes much of its money by tacking on a litany of fees, so read all the fine print and pack light if you want your cheap fare to stay that way. You must book your flight by 11:59 p.m. EDT tonight, and flights are only available on certain days. The full listing of flight and fares for the Weiner Sale can be found on the website.

Movie ticket prices are high enough without spending $5 on a giant bag of popcorn. Fortunately, Yahoo has you covered. When you go to popcorn.yahoo.net and enter your mobile phone number, you’ll get a coupon for a free bag of popcorn at any Regal, UA or Edwards Cinema. It looks like you’ll need a smartphone with web browsing capabilities to bring up the coupon on your phone. No expiration date is listed, but it’s advertised as “one million bags of popcorn” so apparently the deal will end when that milestone is reached.

Remember when we said that you could sometimes guess a coupon code by just inputting the month or season? Well Macy’s is making us look smart today, offering up to 20% off in select departments when you use the code SUMMER. (That said, you didn’t need to guess this one, as it’s listed right on the site.) The discount may be 15% or 10% depending on the department (lingerie and suits, for instance, are only 15% off, and watches and jewelry are only 10% off) and there are a list of exclusions that can be found when you click on the small “details” link on the sale banner.
