Platinum is seeing record highs, both in price and demand. TheStreet.com’s Talented Blonde, Kristen Bentz checked in with jewelry and style expert, Michael O’Connor, to get the style forecast for this precious metal. Hollywood heavyweights like Jennifer Garner, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston all favor the platinum and diamond combination as of late (but really, who wouldn’t), opting for short earrings and statement necklaces.

If you can’t splurge for an iconic Harry Winston (HWD) $1.6 million diamond and platinum wreath necklace or even a simple $6,900 Tiffany & Co. (TIF) Swing bracelet don’t despair. O’Connor says even the average woman can accumulate a collection of platinum by purchasing lighter, more creative pieces. Don’t feel the need to buy one huge piece, he says, but buy a couple smaller items over time and layer.

And remember the chandelier earrings that were all the rage? Put them away, says O’Connor, because they’re so last season. Go for shorter earrings that will provide just a hint of sparkle to compliment bold necklaces and layered bracelets.
