Golden Advice From Gypsy's Patti LuPone
Stage veteran Patti LuPone snagged her fourth Tony nomination May 13 for her performance as Mama Rose in the musical Gypsy. She won in 1980 for her lead performance in Evita, but hasn’t claimed Broadway’s top prize since.
Lupone made her Broadway debut in 1973’s Three Sisters, and has been working ever since. So much, she says, that she never developed a shopping habit. “I’ve been wearing costumes all my life,” LuPone tells MainStreet. “I just don’t know how to shop.”
So LuPone might not need a Sex in the City-sized closet (TWX), but she’s still got her eye on buying bling. “I tell people, buy gold,” she says. “Buy land and buy gold.” And scoop it up while you can. “Just buy land, and buy it before there’s no more left. I think it’s better than the stock market.”
And with the Tony awards coming up on June 15, LuPone might be scooping up more gold sooner than she expected.
