Veterinary Pet Insurance, a pet health care provider, looked through its database and picked out the strangest names that owners have bestowed on their pets. Apparently the kind of people who take out insurance policies for their pets are also some of the most creative when naming them. They love giving our pets titles and salutations, as in the case of Sir Seamus McPoop, an English bulldog, and Corporal Cuddles, who shares a household with Sergeant Snuggles. Also making the top 50 dog names were Baron Von Furrypants and Dr. Banana Pancakes.
Pop culture references were also common. On the dog side there was Sir Chomps-A-Lot and Audrey Shepburn, while one woman named her cat Murderface, after drummer William Murderface of the fictional band Dethklok from Cartoon Network’s Metalocalypse. Our favorite names are Dexteronimous Prime (dog) and Louisiana Purchase (cat).
VPI previously released a list of the most popular names for dogs and cats, and the big story there was that the most popular dog name was Bella, after a character from the Twilight series of novels and movies. We’d like to suggest that dog owners who like vampires take a cue from the woman who named her dog after the original vampire: Beagle Lugosi.
