Recall Roundup: Bikes & Baby Trailers, Saws & Amps

A variety of consumer products are being recalled and could affect cyclists, woodworkers and music lovers alike.  Here’s what you need to know.

Bikes and Bike Add-Ons

Just as bicycling has been gaining in popularity, thousands of bicycles and trailers made to carry kids behind a bicycle are being recalled.

About 1,500 Felt F1X Cyclocross Bicycles are being recalled after there were six reports of the bicycle fork steerer tubes breaking, causing the rider to lose control and fall, and 120 Cannibal Bicycles from Nirve Sports are being recalled after two riders reported parts cracked during assembly.

The $1,400 to $1,500 Cyclocross bikes came in semimatte black and have aluminum frames with carbon fiber forks with aluminum steerer tubes and were sold in specialty stores nationwide from July 2006 through April 2009.

The Cannibal bikes were sold by Nirve Sports and authorized dealers nationwide from December 2008 through April 2009 for about $600.

Consumers are urged to stop riding the bicycles and return them to their place of purchase or local dealer for a free repair.  Felt Bicycles can be reached at (866) 433-5887 or www.feltracing.com, and Nirve Sports can be reached at (888) 296-4783 or www.nirve.com.

About 2,700 d’lite ST and Solo ST Child Trailers designed to attach to the back of a bicycle and carry one or two children are being recalled on concerns that part of the trailer’s axle assembly can loosen, causing a wheel to separate, posing a risk of injury to the child occupant and bike rider.

The trailers were sold by independent bicycle retailers, specialty outdoor retailers and online retailers from November 2008 through June 2009 for between $550 and $600. Consumers should stop using the trailer immediately and contact Burley at (800) 311-5294 or www.burley.com/STProductRecall to receive a free repair or repair kit.
