As a general rule, the CPSC says parents and caregivers should never place these and other corded cameras within three feet of a crib.

The Summer Infant recall follows a safety alert issued by the CPSC in October warning consumers that baby monitor cords presented a danger to infants. According to the alert, there had been six reports of strangulation in baby monitor cords since 2004. Since that alert the number of death reports has risen to seven.

The CPSC is encouraging anyone else who may have experienced a problem with this particular product or type of product to report the incident by visiting its website directly.
