U-Haul International, Inc.

What They Do: Offers trucks, storage space and other products designed for the do-it-yourself mover. U-Haul has more than 15,850 locations in all 50 United States and 10 Canadian provinces.

Types of Part-Time Position(s) Available: E-sales and reservations representatives (telecommuting positions). Many U-Haul store locations also have openings, which are listed on the U-Haul web site, or visit your local store to inquire and apply.

Desired Hours Per Week: “Our call center is open 24/7… Therefore, we are looking for people for all shifts, weekends and holidays,” says Joanne Fried of U-Haul. “The current positions we have available we refer to as moonlighter positions. The moonlighter positions are good for an individual who has the desire to supplement their income by working a few additional hours a week.”   

Starting Pay:  Starting pay is comprised of a base (reportedly between $8 and $9 an hour) plus bonus.

Benefits: Moonlighter team members who meet the necessary requirements are eligible for some benefits such as medical, life insurance, 401(k), employee stock ownership plan, credit union, etc. They also receive discounts on U-Haul rentals, products and services, cell phones, computers and some vehicle purchases.

Requirements: Since the moonlighter positions are "work from home,” the applicant must have a reliable computer, cable or DSL broadband Internet connection, and must purchase their own headset.

The Inside Scoop: Successful applicants are those who are self-disciplined, have basic computer skills and good verbal communication skills. “We also require that applicants have a positive attitude and that they understand and apply great customer service and sales skills.”
