What They Do: Retail stores specializing in brand-name clothing, shoes, accessories and home fashions at discount prices. T.J. Maxx had 874 U.S. locations at the end of 2008, with future expansion planned. T.J. Maxx is part of TJX Companies (Stock Quote: TJX) a corporation that also includes Marshalls, AJ Wright, and HomeGoods stores.

Types of Part-time Position(s) Available: Sales and merchandise associate openings at T.J. Maxx retail locations nationwide; warehouse positions at 14 T.J. Maxx or TJX distribution centers throughout the U.S.

Desired Hours Per Week: Hours are flexible depending location. Applicants who can work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends are preferred.

Starting Pay: Retail wages vary by region, but generally start at slightly above minimum wage. Warehouse positions start at $7.25 per hour.

Benefits: Paid time off and associate discounts. Other benefits vary depending on number of hours worked and length of employment.

Requirements: Must have high school diploma or GED. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities may include merchandise presentation, processing, markdowns, fitting room, cashier, customer service and layaway. Good customer relations skills are a must, as the employee greets, interacts with and thanks customers on a regular basis. Also responsible for maintaining housekeeping standards of assigned area.

The Inside Scoop: Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred. It also helps if you are familiar with designer brands and can comfortably discuss name-brand clothing or home décor with customers. You will need to print out your completed application and drop it off in person at the location. If there is more than one location in your area, you’ll need to complete a separate application for each location.
