Who's Hiring Now: Twitter, Scholastic and More

Jobs are a plenty in technology, health and publishing compared with other sectors.  Whether you’re looking for entry-level work or you have the experience and chops for a more senior position, here are five companies looking for strong candidates.

Twitter

Who They Are: This growing social networking site, which allows users to post short status messages, find friends and disseminate information, has only 30 employees, and it’s looking to expand its workforce with people ready to make a real impact on the Web.

Twitter has also developed products at companies including Google (Stock Quote: GOOG), Xanga, CNET, AOL (Stock Quote: TWX), Samsung, Sony (Stock Quote: SNE), Ericsson (Stock Quote: ERIC) and Vodafone (Stock Quote: VOD).

Where They Are: Located in San Francisco, Twitter’s headquarters boast open spaces, tons of windows and collaborative workspaces conducive to good workplace morale.  “The work environment is extremely important to productivity and happiness,” the company says on its Web site.

What They WantTwitter is looking for several engineers as well as product managers and a person responsible for handling and detering spam across the network.  Generally speaking, the company says it’s looking for people with talent, creativity and a sense that anything is possible.  Being an active twitterer is vital as well.

Coolest Job:  Possibly the best view of the Twitter organization as a whole, and the best way to have an immediate impact on user experience, is by filling the vacancy for a product manager.  Covering several areas of the business at once, the product manager would help develop Twitter service features, work with customer support as a problem-solver and apply market research to new decisions on specific products.  Beyond basic benefits, Twitter says it has the best equipment money can buy, and offers free breakfast, snacks and sometimes lunch.
