NEW YORK (MainStreet) — Now that the holiday season is ending, the real discounts can finally begin.
Retailers ramp up their supply of certain products that tend to be popular gifts in the weeks leading up to Christmas, but as soon as the big day is done stores have to slash prices to keep customers shopping and clear out whatever holiday goods are left in stock. With that in mind, here are a few items you should be able to find on sale this week and next if you’re willing to brave the stores once more.
Anything holiday-themed will be marked down significantly this week as demand for these products plummets. Even though you’re probably not in the market for Christmas ornaments, inflatable reindeer and dishware decorated with pictures of Santa and his elves, now is the perfect time to plan ahead for next year. The only thing to be mindful of, as MainStreet has reported before, is that many retailers will only hold on to their excess supply for a few days before shipping it off to outlet stores. So if you want to find these deals, you’ll have to act fast.
Big video game promotions can be hard to find during the holidays, but by the end of this week you can expect to see more games marked down in price.
“There are a lot of video games that come out in November and December to be sold for Christmas and they generally don’t get reduced price-wise for the holidays, but right after the first of the year, they generally do go on sale,” Howard Schaffer, vice president of business for Offers.com, told MainStreet last month.
In fact, you can already see some of this happening now. Amazon currently has a promotion for 50% off video games, and Game Stop is having a buy one, get one free deal on all in-stock pre-owned games for this week only.
